The Artists

On artistprofiler.art, all Contemporary Artists can create and complete their own page — a Portrait that sets out their artistic approach.

Who is considered a Contemporary Artist?

An artist is considered contemporary if born after 1931 (artists born before that date being generally associated with a historical art movement), not primarily identified with another professional activity, and meeting at least one of the following criteria:

  • Their main activity is the production of works in Contemporary Art
  • They have taken part in at least three exhibitions in the past ten years in spaces dedicated to Contemporary Art
  • The majority of their income comes from the sale of their artworks.

How are Portraits organised?

Artists' Portraits take the form of pre-filled pages created for artists belonging to one of the three Scenes: International SceneFrench Scene — defined by recognition criteria —, or Prominence Scene — defined by visibility criteria.

Contemporary Artists not yet belonging to a Scene — referred to here as Emerging artists — can create and complete their own page (a self-Portrait)
