A group Portrait shows the artists of a gallery, a collection, an institution or a prize, laid out by their Motor and their Means. It bears a year: its list is that of the entity on 31 December of that year, at 11:59 pm. Until then, it follows the entity's movements.
It retains only Contemporary Artists, in the sense of the conditions set out under The Artists: the entity is considered there as an actor of contemporary visual art in that year. The estates a gallery represents fall outside its frame — after the artist's death, what happens to the work belongs to art history, no longer to the Scenes. Why?
An artist on the list whom the instrument does not capture — a main activity other than visual artist, for instance — appears without Motor or Means; the portrait says so at their rank. A duo or a collective counts as a single Artist. Why a single name?
